Semiotics of Horror
The sub-genre we are now looking at doing is a slasher horror. Conventional semiotics for this would be the use of a phallic weapon like a knife or a bat, this allows the antagonist to get up close to the victim/ protagonist and penetrate them, therefor showing there masculinity.
A typical iconography of a slasher movie is a mid shot of the antagonist holding up there weapon, we will use this shot so that the trailer we do is recognisable to the audience as a slasher. The shot would also be a low angle as this represent power and how the victim would be in a high angle shot to connote weakness.
